It saddens us greatly to announce that our beloved Vaja passed away on May 20, 2014, at 6 pm.
She was only 13 years old. In her memory, we would like to tell you her story.
Vaja, together with another cat (we were not sure if that cat was her mother or her sister), came to our shelter on January 12, 2002. We really do not know how old she was at the time, but we estimated that she was about 1 years old. Vaja and her companion came to us after their owner, a very famous Yugoslavian sculptor Vidosava Vide Jocic, passed away.
Vaja's feline companion passed away in August of 2004. We believe now that Vaja’s sibling or her mother was FeLV positive, but at that time in Serbia there were no tests for FIV and FeLV. Vaja herself was FeLV positive and was also high-risk FIP and by the end of 2013, she developed chronic uremia.
Vaja had a very peculiar character; she was unbelievably calm and kept to herself. She loved to eat and although uremia was slowly taking her away from us, until the last moment she wanted to eat, smell her food and fight although her body was giving up.
At the last moment when she opened her eyes for the last time and looked straight at me, my hearth melted and I knew she was ready to go to her real owner and her original family. Rest in peace with angels dear Vaja. We already miss you so much.
