Our Vision
We advocate for a society in which there is no place for cruelty towards animals. Through our work, we promote non-violence, responsible pet ownership, sterilization as the only humane solution for controlling the population of abandoned animals, and greater awareness of animal rights.
Our Mission
Our decades of experience have shown us that building new shelters is not the solution to the problem of the large number of abandoned cats. What is needed is the continuous sterilization of owned and abandoned cats, responsible pet ownership, and public education.
Since 2021, we have been implementing a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program, through which abandoned cats are humanely trapped, sterilized, returned to their original location, and continue to live there under the care of local caregivers.
Our History
The association was founded in 1992. During its early years, its activities focused primarily on the protection of dogs. In 2000, when Zlata Korjenic became president, our work expanded to include cats. That same year, we opened a shelter housing 430 dogs and 16 cats.
Over the following years, approximately 1,000 dogs were adopted, while the number of cats in need of help continued to grow. In 2013, we decided to focus our main activities on cats. At that time, Shelter Jessica became the only registered cat shelter in Serbia.
We believe that every animal saved is a step towards a more humane society.
